Pamplin Park and the Crater

I made 2 visits to Pamplin Park. I arrived at 3 pm and the staff was nice enough to give me a ticket to return the next day for free since it was late. They have the best earthworks I saw on my whole trip.
The GPS was a little confused finding the place, there are several buildings in the complex. I spotted a bearded man with a musket over his shoulder walking down the side of the road and he pointed me to the visitor entrance.
Pamplin Park has a very nice interactive museum. It also has a plantation house that was used by the Union as a headquarters. When I returned the next day I walked out to the area where the earthworks are located and the breakthrough occurred.
They have films and trails to walk and events. A person could definitely make a day of it for a low cost. They have water and soft drinks for sale, which is helpful in case you forgot to bring some. It takes some walking outdoors to see the whole complex.
I made it out to Petersburg National Battlefield but the Visitor Center was closed. I went to the Crater site, which was very solemn. I will be back for sure, probably this year to see all the Petersburg area has to offer.

Great photographs. I’d love to visit it one day. I have been watching the final episode of Blood & Fury Americas Civil War the final episode deals with the Petersburg Breakthrough.

I'll have to watch that one. I plan to go back to Petersburg and Pamplin on another trip. I enjoyed the area and there is more to see than what I was able to do on my last trip.
