Original Kepi ? of the 8th US Infatery ?

Wilber, the listing has it as a "Indian Wars" kepi, post-Civil War.

The expert would be the historian at the U.S. Quarter-Master Museum at Fort Lee. They'll have the specifications to the knots to be used.

(Looks like a match in Chapter 5 - 1872, pg. 29, soldier sitting in a fatigue coat--notice the kepi. And, on page 31--a 1872 kepi with 1879 emblem affixed.)
