Old Stone Church Catoosa County is described in this March 3 1864 article in the Chicago Tribute. A Cincinnati Gazette corespondent was riding with a column of Federal Cavalry when they passed the landmark on their way to probe the Confederates defenses at Dalton on Feb. 23 1864. The column included the 8th and 39th Indiana, 15th Pa and 28th Ky cavalry.

We went there last year during the CWT 2018 Chickamauga Tour. According to its website and the sign outside,it was supposed to be open when we went there but it was closed. I was very disappointed with that.

Thanks for sharing this awesome article. Just one though is that red Oak tree a witness tree?
I have the same question, @Seduzal, and not just that one. I also wonder about the temptation of using and trees of oak to replace the door jambs and windows, after the war. I bet it was a burned out hollow with just 'dark and gloomy walls' still standing.
Lubliner.
