If you look at Fold3 you will find a couple more names to add to your list from
Virginia. Austin Dix and Dick Slate were both colored and served as musicians.
They were both free blacks. Austin Dix served from April 1861 through the
Gettysburg campaign and Dick Slate served for one year enlisting in April 1861
and mustering out in 1862. Both men served with the 18th Virginia Infantry.
