Bellow is an illustration of a U.S. Marine first Lieutenant wearing a fatigue jacket.
Note the sleeve lace that was worn latter in the War.
This is the style that was worn before the War and early in the War. This is basically an upward pointed chevron.
So the Marine officers wore the Marine uniform regulations of 1859 through out the War. So where did the tall almost triangle style lace in the top illustration came from? I have not seen a change in the Marine uniform regulation that authorized it. Now for an even stranger type of lace. There is an image of the tall lace minus the bottom bar and with 8 button instead of four buttons.
What is going on with the standing Marine officer? This is the only example of this odd semi Austrian knot sleeve braid.
