My g-g-grandfather fought in the battle with the 11th TX infantry under Oran Roberts. Michael Dan Jones has 2 books on the 11th TX infantry & the battle of Bayou Bourbeau worth reading.

I had several distant kin— COLE & DUBLIN—who served in 3rd TX Cav and one in 7 TX Cav. Some were casualties or discharged before this battle and a few served until 1865.

I recently completed Don Fraziers new book "Tempest Over Texas - Fall and Winter Campaigns of 1863 - 1864." Chapter 13 is titled Bayou Bourbeau. On page 273 is a detail map of the battle, troop positions, and troop movements. The last two pages relate an interesting story of General Taylor's treatment of the captured and wounded Colonel Guppy of the 23rd Wisconsin. It moved Taylor up a couple more notches on my list of favorite generals.
