I live near the Sunset area and still have access to private properties on and near the battlefield. Also, the area where the Confederate hospital was setup on the Rogers plantation. Would really like to compare notes.
I recently completed Don Fraziers new book "Tempest Over Texas - Fall and Winter Campaigns of 1863 - 1864." Chapter 13 is titled Bayou Bourbeau. On page 273 is a detail map of the battle, troop positions, and troop movements. The last two pages relate an interesting story of General Taylor's treatment of the captured and wounded Colonel Guppy of the 23rd Wisconsin. It moved Taylor up a couple more notches on my list of favorite generals.
