November 15, 1814 - Pleasant Adam Hackleman, American lawyer, politician and Brigadier General (Union Army), born in Franklin County, Indiana (d. 1862)

November 15, 1816 - Joseph Bennett Plummer, American Brigadier General (Union Army), born in Barre, Massachusetts (d. 1862)

November 15, 1836 - Pierce M. B. Young, American Major General (Confederate Army), born in Spartanburg, South Carolina (d. 1896)

November 15, 1861 - William Tecumseh Sherman is replaced by Don Carlos Buell at the head of the reorganized Department of Ohio. Sherman had assumed command as senior officer when Anderson was relieved of duty.

November 15, 1861 - Second pro-Union rebellion in East Tennessee, centered in the Chattanooga area.

November 15, 1861 - The Unionists' camp near Chattanooga, TN, is dispersed by the Confederates.

November 15, 1861 - The USS San Jacinto arrives at Fortress Monroe, VA, and transfers Confederate Commissioners, Mason and Slidell, as prisoners of war, to Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, MA, arriving Nov 24. This creates an international incident with England, which is undesired by President Lincoln.
November 15, 1862 - Confederate Secretary of War George Randolph resigns over President Jefferson Davis's control of the War Department.

November 15, 1862 - John Sappington Marmaduke, CSA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

November 15, 1862 - Skirmish at Yocum Creek, MO.

November 15, 1862 - Federal reconnaissance from Edgefield Junction toward Clarksville, TN. 11/15-20/1862.

November 15, 1862 - Action at Warrenton, or Sulphur Springs, VA.

November 15, 1862 - Skirmish on the Guyandotte, WV.

November 15, 1863 - Moving east from the Mississippi, General William Tecumseh Sherman arrives in Stevenson, Alabama with four divisions. Sherman then confers with Grant in Chattanooga.

November 15, 1863 - Skirmish in Newton County, AR.

November 15, 1863 - Federal expedition from Vidalia to Trinit, LA. (Nov 15-16)

November 15, 1863 - Confederate demonstration on John's Island, SC, as the Rebels attempt to destroy the bridge connecting Seabrook and Kiawah Islands. The Federals equipped with 11 schooners, 3 steamers, 3 brigs and 2 gunboats in the harbor.

November 15, 1863 - Skirmish at Lenoir's Station, TN, the Knoxville, TN, Campaign.

November 15, 1863 - Skirmish at Loudon, TN, the Knoxville, TN, Campaign.

November 15, 1863 - Skirmish at Pillowville, TN, as the Federals attack and rout a Confederate conscripting party.

November 15, 1863 - Skirmish at Stock Creek, TN, the Knoxville, TN, Campaign.

November 15, 1863 - Federal expedition from Charlestown, WV, to near New Market, VA, and skirmishes (Nov 16) at:
Woodstock, where the Federals capture the Rebel mail carrier and a wagon with four barrels of apple brandy intended for Brig. Gen. John D. Imboden's, CSA, camp.
Edenburg, and skirmish with Confederate pickets there, and Mount Jackson, VA, with Confederate Cavalry and later on with bushwhackers. (Nov 15-18)

November 15, 1864 - Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's, USA, starts from Atlanta, GA, on his famous "March to the Sea," destroying everything of military value in sight.
