    While the rural landscape in irrecoverable at this point, I would note that you can experience pre-Civil War Brooklyn in Brooklyn Heights. I believe that there are more than 600 pre-Civil War structures in the neighborhood, and that many entire blocks are nearly exclusively pre-1865 buildings.
