Brooks Simpson found an interesting rewriting of history in New Orleans. New lampposts have historical information on them. According to Simpson:

    https://cwcrossroads.wordpress.com/2017/03/18/think-before-you-lamp-post/

One reads, “Spanish Domination 1769-1803.” Another one marks the period France ruled. Yet another side reads, “American Domination 1803-1861 1865 To Date.”
You’ll never guess what the fourth side reads.
The fourth side on the base of the new light posts reads, “Confederate Domination 1861-1865.”

Just the country or nation running/owning during those periods.

I thought NawLins went back farther than 1700's though.

Since New Orleans was captured in 1862 aren't the dates incorrect?

Maybe yes, maybe no. Depends on how they look at it.
You could say it was occupied during such time but it was still a confederate state.

maybe Brooks Simpson whoever that is should read the article that he linked to.........

If you look closely at the lights, the bases have four sides and commemorate countries that have ruled Louisiana. One reads, “Spanish Domination 1769-1803.” Another one marks the period France ruled. Yet another side reads, “American Domination 1803-1861 1865 To Date.”

The fourth side on the base of the new light posts reads, “Confederate Domination 1861-1865.”

I think it is that fourth side that presents the problem.

The Union Navy and army captured New Orleans in 1862 and held it throughout the rest of the war.

wow you and Mr. Brooks Simpson still aren't reading the original article that clearly states the inscriptions are referring to the various countries that ruled Louisiana.....

Louisiana was in fact one of the last (if not the last) Confederate State governments to surrender.

N.O. was under Confederate control for barely 16 months: from secession to the first of May 1862.
And, yes, "domination" was a poor choice of word, even if the signs were otherwise accurate.
