New Market Heights and the Campaign Before Richmond 9/26-28/2014

And now, gentle readers, I take you away from the victories of Union forces and now bring you another story, the story that sadly accompanies hard-won victories, the story of defeat that is often the brother of victory in war.

The Battle of Second Deep Bottom.

Wounded USCT Sergeant Major escorted back from the fighting.

And thus ends the day and my reporting from the field.

Well folks,

That's the last of my period reporting of the events that transpired at the Battle of New Market Heights reenactment during September 26 through 28, 2014.

What follows now are pictures I took of various people, units, and happenings I won't always be able to put a name to. If anyone reading this thread can help me out with a name or unit designation, I would certainly be greatful.

Well, here goes...

As far as I can tell, this is the Federal City Brass Band.

And this, for a fact, is the tallest USCT soldier of the entire event!

Some "Spangisms" overheard by this reporter:

"NOBODY steals SPAM."

"I've heard Richmond girls are easy."

What follows now are images of the mostly federal units who participated in making this such a great event. A few I know, but many I don't and I would appreciate any help in finding out who they are.

Members of the 49th NYVI.

Well, for better or for worse, this is my thread on the reenactment of the Battle for New Market Heights. I had an amazing time at this event, and I can assure everyone, anytime Mike Lavis, Bob Minton, Mark Holbrook, Mike Rush and Dan Schown organize and conduct an event, I'LL BE THERE!

Mark Holbrook and Mike "he of the patented over the rail fence hit" Rush.

It's either an unusually tall Sergeant Major or a very short Bob Minton.

The photograph under the drummer boys, are the 3rd US Regular Infantry, Co. "K" "Buffsticks"--to whom were there to portray another Union unit. Great shot!

M. E. Wolf,

Thanks for the info. I have changed the caption per your post above. Please advise if you recognize any others.

Sincerely,

M.E. Wolf,

I may have a few I have not posted on this thread. I tried not to post any with modern intrusions (Port-a-Johns, spectators, etc.)

If you like, I'll post those also.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

I think folks would enjoy anybody taking photographs of them, as they more than likely were busy in the 'war' part.

Did you get any of the yellow kepi clad Confederates? Those would be the 26th NC Troops.

M. E. Wolf,

A few more pictures, just for you.
