New Albany Grays Civil War flag comes home for display

The vintage photo is one of the two last New Albany Grays, left is Charles R. Martin and right is Alph Jarvis. They were the recipents of the flag when it was returned to New Albany and they carried it to the reunions.

When in 1861 women of New Albany were busy sewing together pieces of red, white and blue silk, and in careful, elegant script embroidering New Albany Grays on a two-sided, 11-star company flag, did they imagine that it would survive the Civil War and Hurricane Katrina and other events through time and be back in New Albany a century and a half later?
