This is from an ncpedia.org website article on "Confederate Memorial Day". The question is (and this is asked in the comment section of the article) where is the source for the statement that "the Reconstruction military governor had threatened to shoot anyone who gathered for such a purpose"? I assume Dan Sickles was the one in charge of Second Military District in 1866. Is there a link anywhere to verify this threat? Thanks for any information that can provide that will shed some light on this matter.
