This is a first time event, the 1st N.C. Union Vols has never been done before from what I’ve been told. It’s a part of N.C. history that’s never been told and needs to be told. The 1st NC (union Vols) was formed in April of 1862 and consisted of pro union men who wanted protection of the federal army. They issued whatever burnsides army had extra of, after that it was whatever they could buy or trade. We have yet to find an official request for uniforms or equipment for the regiment after their initial issue in June of 62, but more research is being done as we speak. To put it in plain words They were treated like a red headed step child. The 2nd was formed in late 63 and consisted of confederate deserters, draft dodgers, and men forced into service by the federal army. These men were never issued equipment for two reasons, one to infiltrate enemy held towns and two because they were usually stationed in the swamps of eastern NC and couldn’t receive any. So this is why I put the mixture of confed issue equipment most of the deserters joined the army with what they still had on, but it needs to be very limited, civilian attire would be more preferred.
We will be forming either one or two companies depending on Troop numbers. Officers and Ncos will be posted at a later date once we get a headcount. The itinerary for the weekend will be as follows:
