I could not find a thread on this, so thought I would start one. The National Museum of the US Army is now open at Fort Belvior, VA, just south of Washington D.C. You do not have to go on base to visit the museum.

It covers the entire history of the US Army from the Revolution to the most recent conflicts. However, I am only going to include photos of a handful of items in the museum that are pertinent to the Civil War. It includes a lot of weapons and artifacts, including small arms, armored vehicles, and aircraft.

I think my favorite moment was talking to a museum docent that served back in the 50's and had been issued a small missile equipped with a tactical nuclear warhead that was on display. He commented that he didn't think anything of it at the time, but in retrospect, he can't believe they were putting a bunch of 18-year-olds in charge of them!

I highly recommend the museum, I really enjoyed it.
