After being closed for three weeks per the governor's order, the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg has reopened on a limited schedule.

The museum will be open Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on Sundays from noon to 4:00 PM. It will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Assuming no further shutdowns, this schedule will be in effect until March 31, 2021.

The museum is located in Harrisburg, PA because the city's former mayor, the late Stephen Reed, went out and acquired artifacts with which to start a museum collection.

Reed's vision was to spur tourism in Harrisburg by making it a city of museums. In addition to the existing State Museum of Pennsylvania and the small Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, he planned to build not only the National Civil War Museum but also a Wild West museum and an all-sports Hall of Fame.

Though the Wild West museum and the sports Hall of Fame were never built, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the National Civil War Museum's opening.
