Chalmers beautiful photos. Could you ID them for us?

I was looking for the tag to do it originally, but will here.
Pictures are;
1. Entrance of Memhis National Cemetery- have vets, wives, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam burials.
2. USCT sign outside entrance
3. USCT obverse
4. Illinois Monument Plaque and US Crest
5. Illinois burial section
6. Illinois Monument

Looks like a great trip. Thanks for taking us along.

Good pictures. I visited it in June 2017 on the way to Corinth. For some reason, it was/is bigger than I thought it would be.

It should be remembered that a great many of the victims of the Sultana disaster are buried here also, although they are marked as unknowns.

Their bodies were put in coffins on the riverbank in Memphis and whatever identification information available was written in chalk on the coffins.
A heavy rain came and washed all the chalk writing away.

Correct, it is outside the entrance of the Cemetery.
This plaque is located outside the Cemetery and was not installed by the US National Cemetery.
I zoomed in on the photo and it said USCT association on there? Think this was privately funded for the purpose of calling out that some of the unknown soldiers are known to be USCT from Fort Pillow.

Thanks for the pics, Chalmers' D...

N B Forrest had a plantation here pre-war. He signed it to his mother when he joined the CSA. It was later confiscated and she was forced to move.

On a different note, just around the corner on National is the NaJack Market and Convenience Store. This building originally housed Ardent Recording who worked with greats like the Box Tops, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Isaac Hayes, James Taylor and on and on. Lots of music history in there....

Do you mean that NBF owned a plantation on the actual site of the National Cemetery?
Or do you mean somewhere in the Memphis area?

Thanks for telling folks about Ardent Studio. It often gets overlooked.

The marker had to receive approval from the National Cemetery Administration which also approved its location with the assistance of Shelby County Historical Commission. It was privately funded and the text received input from numerous people. It was sponsored by "WeAllBe Group Inc, USCT, Joe Williams, Descendants, other African Americans, and the Shelby County Historical Commission." The "USCT" and "other African Americans" were a lost battle in the text decision making process as they are vague. The marker was installed in June 2018. The photo is of Pvt. Peter Williams, 6th USCHA, who was a Fort Pillow survivor. It is currently the only known photo of USCTs at Fort Pillow.
