Forrest Nathan Bedford Forrest Reinterment

His statue is going to be re-installed at his new final resting spot. I would think there will be a dedication event when that happens.

The link you've included is an absolutely fantastic article about Forrest. It's amazing the fake news, & propaganda that folks still stick to NBF. Haters doing anything they can to prevent him from being praised, or respected as a hero, or man to be looked up to. That article would make for a great thread starter, debunking the negative propaganda folks still attach to one of the greatest cavalry leaders ever.
Well, can @7th Mississippi Infantry start a thread in the appropriate place about NBF? Are you willing to do that @7th?

Diane was the expert on NBF, her grandfather literally rode with NBF but wouldn’t talk about it and her grandfather lived to be just over 100 and was sharp. How annoying to have a grandfather that did that and won’t talk:banghead:!

Thanks for the pictures and story @Viper21.
Before the ceremony at Elm Springs Gen Forrest and Mary's caskets were at Forrest Boyhood Home in Chapel Hill,Tn.
7th Tennessee Cavalry, Co D were honored to be pallbearers at Chapel Hill. A mounted escort lead the hearse at the beginning of the trip.

Safety concerns from the powers at be did not allow us to bring horses to Elm Springs. As some members here know, we were sworn to not talk about it beforehand. A somber and moving experience.

Why NO HORSES???? Horses were a big part of NBF. And what are the “safety concerns” with horses, says this horse girl, with well-trained horses? Harumph.

I know, I know, I know....
That's what we said. We're grateful for what we were allowed to do.
These horses are "battle broke" accustomed to canon fire, ground explosions, small arms fire, screaming people and general chaos.

I think the event hosts were concerned about protesters and did not want to add horses into the mix. I was not a party to the lengthy negotiations.

Thank you !

But there's really no new thread I could start that hasn't already addressed the same topics within that link.

A glance through the Forrest Forum will provide many threads that discuss all of the details mentioned in
the newspaper article I posted.

But I will say, IMO the Headquarters of the Sons of Confederate Veterans at Elm Springs, Tennessee is by far the best
(and hopefully) final resting place for this couple.
