I wanted to share some of the Civil War Sources I have discovered and use in my amatuer reseach efforts and study. I would hope that members will also share their sources which might be of assistance to many of our younger members who are just starting their journeys into the vast world of the American Civil War.

Here are a few to begin with. More to come.

One source that I found useful was Roster of the Courts-Martial in the Confederate States Armies by Jack Bunch, published by White Mane Books of Shippensburg, PA. I have also used The Library of Congress Civil War Desk Reference.

I have been attempting to sort and organize my Civil War Sources and found one that I needed to go ahead and publish. Fox's work is a must for any serious battle student.

Perhaps of all the documents I have discovered and study this one may be of the greatest interest. The History of Confederated Memorial Associations of the South provides the history of the realization of the lack of honor and recognition and the dedicated efforts to address this lack by the Ladies of both sides.

Women in the South established "Lady Memorial Associations" to mark the graves of the soldiers partially based on efforts by women from Columbus, MS who had attended to the markers and strew flowers on all the markers. This loosley connected network of concerned women worked dilligenty to honor the dead.

This action was taking place in a world were women did weild public power but held great sway behind doors. The devastation of the male population below the Mason-Dixon Line was so great that woman were able to create, motivate and act upon there plans to create lasting memorials to their sons, husbands, brothers and fathers who did not come home.

I am moved by reading of their efforts and the obvious devotion they showed to their loved ones. Truly these were women who were not to be deterred and were not. We honor their efforts to the men not the cause!
