George was born in Lowndes County, Mississippi, attended school in Kentucky in 1850 while also living in Columbus, Mississippi, and was the commander of the 14th Mississippi Infantry along with others, and died in his hometown of Lowndes County, Mississippi. His father was Colonel of Mississippi State Troops in Pensacola, Florida in January of 1861, before the actual shots at Fort Sumter. He was dropped after the war started and actual armies were formed, and his son took his place. Charles was born in Alexandria, VA and passed away in Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi, USA. Meriwether Jeff Thompson is the whole reason I joined this app as he is my MOST famous relative and the reason I absolutely love the American Civil War.

Did Jean Schmitt serve in the War of 1812? Or was he a later German arrival?
