My 80 Years in Atlanta by Sara Huff

Interesting book - I wish I had more time to read all of it today. I found the stories of the dogs and cats left behind by fleeing civilians to be something I hadn't thought about before.

The part about the flies was an ominous scene. If you look at pictures of the period there were virtually no trees. I cant imagine what a hot Georgia summer was like with the battle going on.

Also interesting was the comment, I think it was in the spring/summer of 1864, that it was apparant that the slaves would be freed, so her family sold most of their slaves in Atlanta while they could still get a price for them.

I wonder who would have bought them, and for what price? It didn't turn out to be a very good investment .

A very interesting story - I've read some stories about Atlanta during the war, but not one as detailed as this

Thanks for posting it!
