Hidy everybody, I am currently researching a 3rd great uncle whose name was Barnet Alvin Christopher. He was born in 1844 South Carolina, Spartanburg County to be exact.

He enlisted in Captain Francis J. Erwin's Co. I, 33rd Regiment, Arkansas. Organized in Montgomery Co, Arkansas on June 24, 1862. He died 15 Feb 1864 at Camp Sumter, Arkansas. But don't know if he died from wounds received in battle or some kind of sickness.

I've sent for his compiled service records but they haven't gotten here yet. In the meantime i'm trying to find where he might be buried whether in a single or mass grave. I understand Camp Sumter was in Hempstead Arkansas but where i'm not for sure. I've read it was close to Spring Hill and Hope both.

Does anyone have any other type of info on Camp Sumter? I've made a Findagrave Memorial for him but would like to have more info.

Report of Lieut. Col. Thomas D. Thomson,
Thirty-third Arkansas Infantry, of engagement at Jenkins' Ferry.

HDQRS. THIRTY-THIRD ARKANSAS INFANTRY,
Camp near Tulip, Ark., May 2, 1864.
CAPT.: I beg leave to submit the following report of my regiment
in the engagement on the 30th ultimo near Jenkins' Ferry, on the Saline
River: The regiment went into action under the command of Col.
H. L. Grinsted, and I went in as lieutenant-colonel of the regiment.
Col. Grinsted being killed early in the action the command of the
regiment fell upon me. I then commanded it through the fight, which
lasted about five hours and a half. My regiment was cut up
considerable, so much so that I was compelled to take it out about half
a mile from the field to draw a fresh supply
of ammunition and to rest and recruit, about the time that Gen.
Walker's division went into the action. I was not permitted to remain
there long, but was ordered on the field again to support Walker's
division. Maj. Steele took command then, I being ordered to the
hospital to get up what men there that were able to go in the fight.
Capt. Dickson, of Company A, seeing the color-bearer shot down,
gallantly raised the colors and kept them up until he was cut down by
three balls. The casualties are as follows: Killed, 2 officers and 19 men;
wounded, 7 officers and 64 men.

Respectfully submitted.

Yours,

T. D. THOMSON,
Lieut.-Col., Cmdg. Regt.

Capt. A. TAPPAN,
Assistant Adjutant-Gen.

Just got through checking a few places out and found a 3 times great uncle from a different branch of the family, lol. Anyone here kin to Absolom Pinkney Bryant in Holland, Faulkner County Arkansas? He enlisted in 1862 and was with the thirty sixth infantry
Oh boy, I have a feeling y'all are gonna get tired of reading my posts, lol.

Alright what happened? I hit something and it darkened the posting. Have no idea how I did that one. I think I need to go back to bed.

LOL !

I think you clicked the "B" in the upper left above the text box. That converts everything you've typed into bold print.

You'll get the hang of everything !
