Hidy everybody, I am currently researching a 3rd great uncle whose name was Barnet Alvin Christopher. He was born in 1844 South Carolina, Spartanburg County to be exact.
He enlisted in Captain Francis J. Erwin's Co. I, 33rd Regiment, Arkansas. Organized in Montgomery Co, Arkansas on June 24, 1862. He died 15 Feb 1864 at Camp Sumter, Arkansas. But don't know if he died from wounds received in battle or some kind of sickness.
I've sent for his compiled service records but they haven't gotten here yet. In the meantime i'm trying to find where he might be buried whether in a single or mass grave. I understand Camp Sumter was in Hempstead Arkansas but where i'm not for sure. I've read it was close to Spring Hill and Hope both.
Does anyone have any other type of info on Camp Sumter? I've made a Findagrave Memorial for him but would like to have more info.
