Mine is called The Rockery, in Easton, Massachusetts. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted
I remember thinking that the Kansas Monument at Vicksburg was very strange, and not in a good way. It looked like some postmodern thing a kid in a high school shop class could have knocked together.
Can you post an image of it?I remember thinking that the Kansas Monument at Vicksburg was very strange, and not in a good way. It looked like some postmodern thing a kid in a high school shop class could have knocked together.
Just wondering how anyone would know that is CW related? Is there a plaque or something?Mine is called The Rockery, in Easton, Massachusetts. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted

Thanks for the link, UV. I can see now what everyone is talking about. Ugh. It's not inspiring at all IMO ...
Not just odd but creepy, though the intentions were good."The Sphinx" by Martin Milmore always struck me as odd. In Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. He was responsible for many more traditional and finely sculpted soldiers' monuments. It seems it was more the vision of man who commissioned it than the sculptor's. Not sure it works.

I love this monument. I think it's stunning. Though I get what you are saying about disproportionate elements. Sometimes these things can make an image even more captivating. To me it is the Louisiana State Memorial at Gettysburg . I've heard it is supposed to represent St. Barbara and that it is by a renowned sculptor , but to me it is just plain disturbing . Huge feet , odd proportions , it is definitely unusual.

The State of Mississippi is my other most favourite monumentAccording to Stone Sentinels:
The monument is entitled “Spirit Triumphant,” and was created by Donald DeLue, who was also the sculptor of the State of Mississippi monument. It represents a wounded gunner of New Orleans Washington Artillery clutching to his heart a Confederate battle flag while above him the Spirit of the Confederacy sounds a trumpet and raises a flaming cannonball.

His beard seems kinda disproprtionate and his leg looks very skinny as well compared to the rest of him. Definitely an odd one.General Longstreet on his horse at Gettysburg is unusual. That rear hoof is not right and the poor steed looks like it is groaning (... phew! I am too small for old Pete") View attachment 302165
woah! that really is... ummm???This gets my vote as being the most unusual monument, I say unusual, what I really mean is...hideous.
