Note that Morris had declined promotions to both Brigadier and Major General late in 1862. He did so out of pique, "feeling his services warranted more speedy recognition." Besides, there was lots of money to be made back home in Indiana -- a fact of which he took extravagant advantage.

What did Morris do from July of 1861 to the Sept. + Oct. of 1862 when he declined generalship in the US Volunteers. After His commission expired in 1861 a little over a year lapsed until he declined any further reappointment in the volunteers.How was that year spent by this ex-brigadier?
