I have been working on a historical fiction novel for a couple of years now, and have effectively named it Morgan's Courthouse. The book is still in the works but I am set on the name. Alot of it has been research after research and notes for my source citations ( I feel like I've done more of that than actual writing). Something that I found in my research was that gradual incline of the price of horses and mules across the nation in the years leading up to the war. Horses and mules that were ridable and mature went for anywhere between 80-120 on average by the year 1860
That's quite a bit back then!

Good luck with your novel. Hope that, although it's historical fiction, it includes a lot of actual history with the fiction.
