A Civil War Postscript
"Two years earlier, a Mr. Whitbread was taken from his home in Stone County by bushwhackers. His friends, believing him murdered, searched in vain for the body. Recently, his body had been found about a mile from his home suspended from a tree limb. Putrefaction had not taken place, but the flesh had dried, retaining to some extent the outline of his face which enabled his friends to identify him even after hanging for two years by the neck."
