I'm on the hunt for any and all information about any Mississippi soldier's company and/or regiment's flag. There are alot of regiments that she gave to the War effort but not alot of flags to be found. I have gone through the posts on flags here and found lots of info. If anyone finds or knows of any tidbit...share it please.
The recent preservation of Brig. Gen. John Adams' regimental flag has spiked my interest in this subject. I have yet to find MY ancestors colors, but am optimistic it will be found. He was with Adams' Brig, 23rd MS, in Franklin, TN when the valiant General was killed, November 1864.
Each and every flag, North and South, is an original piece of art. Oh, what a story it tells if only we listen!!

Welcome JohnnyClair.

Our member @Championhilz has posted some great Mississippi Unit Flag threads on these forums and on his blog.

thanks for the links...good stuff, some I haven't seen yet...
by the way, on the 1st Regimental flag of the 7th, is that the "magen david" or star of David used as the white stars? There were quite a bit of Jewish families in the deep south at that time...migrating from the Carolina's and VA. And, yeah, I've got Jewish heritage but its from my moms' mothers side...old Albemarle area NC and early coastal VA settlers. In the early "southern" days, they weren't openly practicing and tended to blend in and stay family oriented.
Back to the flag/stars....IF it is, well, that is quite a story I'd love to hear.

No . . . it's only a coincidence that the stars resemble the Magen David.

During the mid 19th century most of the state's Jewish population were concentrated in the Mississippi River cities: Natchez, Vicksburg, Greenville and in Jackson.

The majority of men in the 7th were Protestants from the interior.

Here is an interesting link that provides an overview of Jewish history in Mississippi.

Thanks, its a nice one, but.....it's the ONLY one I have been able to find, though. He was in Co. K then later it merged with Co. E, "J.W. Thompson's Invincibles". He is pictured in a book, "Remembering Mississippi Confederates" by Jeff T Giambrone which has mainly pictures of the MS boys and a brief history with the images. It has a copy of the only KNOWN pic of my GGGGrandaddy. Feds raided and burned it all in the NE section of the state by war's end. Alas, no colors yet found.

That's pretty neat.

I have that book by Jeff Giambrone, it's very good.

Jeff is also a member of CivilWarTalk and uses the handle @Championhilz.
He has a very interesting blog which I provided a link to in one of my earlier posts:

If memory serves, the flag of the 21st Mississippi (Barksdale's Brigade) is in the Old Courthouse Museum in Vicksburg.
