Thanks once more - and again a very interesting discussion thanks to all of your interesting and knowledgeable comments!
One thing I found particularly interesting: @Pat Young said:

Pat Young: When I was a kid, Warren was "the hero of Little Round Top"

When I was first in Gettysburg in 2013, our guide also told us that Warren was the hero and saved the day. I had no idea of your Civil War back then and was just bitten by the bug there and started reading as soon as I was home again, but I remember that I first even mixed up Chamberlain and Warren, because the guide (if only I could remember his name ... he stood in for the originally scheduled guide who had become sick. The "substitute" was constantly laughing which I found pretty disturbing on a battlefield where so many people had died!) mainly told us about Warren and mentioned Chamberlain only in connection with the "Killer Angels". After I had read that novel I always took Chamberlain's impromptu heroism for granted ... maybe not entirely justly so. But be it as it may, nothing will scratch Chamberlain's image for me, as I'm so impressed by what he did at Appomattox, in spite of his ghastly wound he had received. That "Honor greeting honor" that saved the face of all Confederates present and enabled them to go home with their heads held high. They were defeated, but Chamberlain saved them their self respect, which sure helped to lay the foundation for a new beginning... (Sorry for deviating once more!)

Again, thank you all and thank you @ami for providing the transcript!
