WiliamPendleton was very religous in his career as a military officer and as a civilian. Commanded the Rockbridge artillery as a captain, but only commanded 4 guns which he named Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. By the time the battle of first manasses rolled around captian Pendleton was now colonel Pendleton and started serving as cheif artillery for Gen. Johnston. Was wounded during the battle in his ear and his back, he recover and pressed on fighting for the cause. After the confederate army of the potomac turned into the army of northern virginia he became a brigade general. Only bad thing was the next day he was wounded when a mule kicked him in his leg, they believed it had broken but wont for sure. But his msot famous moment was also his most embarrsing momment at the battle of shepherdstown pendleton lost control of the situation and all four of his guns were captured. Even though he lost his guns he continued fighting with the ANV and paroled at Appomattox. After the war he returned home to his church and continued preaching, he would continue it for the rest of his life. Gen Pendleton was not a great commander, but he is a man most of us cover up on accident. He might have not been great but we must keep his story alive to teach to others

"I'm sure your men will spread the gospel wherever they encounter the enemy." Gen Jackson

" A stupid old, useless fool" Robert k Kirck, civil war time magazine.
