I think I actually might, but I'm thinking it may be a documentary / movie, whatever credit that may or may not earn....I'm curious now, too...I'll see if I can find that one again (I have the film on DVD, if it is what I'm thinking of...)

As far as the officious title of name placements and correct order for lineage...I have no idea...I do still seem to be off (or on) by only one name....

Thanks for the heads up Andrea. Have had to curtail my use of all forms of social media in order to get some writing done. Will try to achieve more of a balance. Thanks.

Pat: I am writing Willich's biography as we speak. Once I get the draft manuscript done, I will certainly want to check off with you and others. I am also collaborating with a German scholar who is doing his PhD thesis on Willich. He has a particular interest in Willich's activities as a labor leader - an obscure part of an understudied life story. Between the two of us, we hpe to bring Papa Willich some just attention, as you have with your blog.

Yes, I seem to remember reading excerpts from some of Marx's articles at the time, and being quite impressed. He was a correspondent in London for the New York Daily Tribune.

However insightful he may have been, though, it's sobering to remember that the movement his writings inspired had a death toll of over 100 million in the 20th century, a figure that dwarfs the fatalities in our Civil War, even if the 750,000 killed in the war are adjusted proportional to our current population. And I find it disconcerting that many here who would never dream of defending the Nazional Socialists of Germany seem to go soft on socialists in other countries such as Russia and China who killed more than 80 million of their own countrymen. Someone must speak up for the millions ruthlessly slaughtered in the Holodomor and the "Great Leap Forward."

As the great Russian, Fyodor Dostoevsky, wrote: "If there is no God, everything is permitted." Including democide.

the socialist wing of the nsdap was purged in the night of the long knives in 1934. gregor strasser was killed, his brother otto driven into exile. who ever survived simply shut up. there was nothing socialist after that. hitler got (more or less) rid of both the sa (which the wehrmacht detested) and his party's socialist wing (which the capitalists feared) in just one massacre. national socialists = socialists was also wrong before 1934 as the brethren strasser led a rather small minority and there was no socialist politic implemented whatsoever.

... btw, there is no Z in the german word national - it's only in the abbreviation nazi, however tio is pronounced like zio in german - which is due to the diphtong following the T. you need that Z in nazi to get the sound right as there is no diphtong following.

disclaimer: these wiki-links are for a first glance, they are no way sufficient

I'm intrigued. Will this be published as an academic paper, or a book?
