March 19, 1863 - The 1st and 2nd Divisions, 9th US Army Corps, embark at Newport News, VA, for the Dept. of the Ohio, arriving at Bardstown and Lexington, KY via railroad cars through Pennsylvania and Ohio. The 3rd Division left Newport News, VA, for Suffolk, VA. (Mar 19-26)

March 19, 1864 - Federal expedition from Rolling Prairie to Batesville, AR, with skirmishes, where the Confederates suffer about 50 casualties, with loss of horses, etc. (Mar 19-Apr 4)

March 19, 1864 - Skirmish with Indians on the Eel River, CA, where the Yankees kill 2 Indian men and capture 2 Indian women.

March 19, 1864 - Skirmish on the Cumberland River, KY, with Brig. Gen. Edward H. Hobson, USA, with the loss of life on both sides.

March 19, 1864 - Skirmish at Black Bayou, LA, the Red River (LA) Campaign.
Federal scout from Lexington, toward Jackson, MO, and encounters with guerrillas and bushwackers. (Mar 19-22)

March 19, 1864 - Skirmish at Beersheba Springs, TN.

March 19, 1864 - Union attack on Laredo, TX. Even though the Federals have superior rifles, the Texans barricade the town and force a Union withdrawal.

March 19, 1864 - Federal scout to Salem and Orleans, VA, where Lieut. Col. John S. Mosby, CSA, punishes the Yankees for coming into Mosby's Confederacy.

March 19, 1865 - March 21, 1865 - Battle of Bentonville - William Hardee, D. H. Hill and A. P. Stewart combine to attack Slocum's wing on the federal advance. In spite of initial gains they are repulsed. Sherman reinforces Slocum on the second day and Slocum nearly enveloped the Confederate forces on the third day.

March 19, 1865 - The siege of Petersburg is ongoing.

March 19, 1865 - Brig. Gen. Thomas Kilby Smith, USA, assumes the command of the District of South Alabama, the Mobile, AL, Campaign.

March 19, 1865 - Skirmishes at Welaka and Saunders, FL.

March 19, 1865 - Federal scout from Warrensburg to Columbus, MO, with skirmish with guerrillas near Greenton. (Mar 19-23)

March 19, 1865 - Skirmish at the Neuse River Bridge, near Goldsborough, NC.

March 19, 1865 - Skirmishes at and near Cox's Bridge, Neuse River, near Goldsborough, NC, with Maj Gen. John M Schofield's, USA, column of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's, USA, Army, which is Marching towards Goldsborough, NC. (Mar 19-20)

March 19, 1865 - Skirmish at Celina, TN.
