  • Description: A bronze equestrian portrait of General Meade looking out over the battlefield where the Union army under his direction won one of its greatest battles. He holds a pair of binoculars in his proper right hand and his hat in his proper left hand. A sword hangs from the left side of his saddle. The horse depicted is known as “Old Baldy”.

I wouldn't want an entire army of generals filled with those like Meade, but he did his job. "All corps and other commanders are authorized to order the instant death of any soldier who fails in his duty at this hour." GGM, late June 1863.
