My M1855 Rifle Musket 1859 has been bugging me that it wanted to have family around. So I found a cousin. It is not quite as pristine since it appears to have seen usage with both sides in the struggle due to the initials.

What a great piece that screams "Johnnie"!

Might as well add the proper Sword Bayonet, scabbard and frog. This is way to pristine of an example to have served together with this rifle, but could not resist it. Markings are B on flat of handle next to guard and V 1 in the guide mortise. Non US marked are supposedly made for the Militias. A build up of verdigris between brass of scabbard and leather of frog. They have been together for a long time.

I used to have an M1 and you can see the heritage from these arms; the ruggedness, the robustness of the furniture and mechanism, the contours of the stocks, the economy of the designs, etc. There is no questioning the lineage. Beautiful musket.

Do people actually sell Maynard tape for this thing?
I asked the same question many years ago, when I had a fairly robust M1855 collection and unbelievably DuPont still holds the patent, which they apparently renew, at least that was what I was told by a fairly reliable source. I used to reenact with a '55 and wanted to find the tape primers, but I never bothered to follow up, on the veracity of the claim. My '55 collection is down to the nub (1) rifle (2) muskets and my favorite, the Cadet.
