"GETTYSBURG--If the walls of the old Lutheran Theological Seminary could talk, they'd tell horrific stories.

"The building, which served as a Civil War hospital in 1863, was never previously open to the general public.

"But beginning Monday, tourists will stand on floors that absorbed the blood of hundreds of maimed and dying soldiers. They'll linger near walls that vibrated with soldiers' agony, under ceilings they stared at while praying."

Because of the fighting on Seminary Ridge 150 years ago, more persons have been shot on the grounds of Gettysburg Seminary than that of any other religious institution in the U.S. Given this context, how might we, on this hallowed ground, now think about war/peace, church/state, freedom/slavery, suffering/consolation for suffering?
