In looking up the history of Lt. Col. William Hoffman, I learned he was with Gen Twigg in San Antonio, Tx in 1862 when Twigg surrendered everything under his command. Hoffman was taken to a prison camp. I am having trouble locating which prison camp Hoffman was sent to. He was promoted to full Colonel while in prison camp, and was eventually exchanged.

After his release, Hoffman was charged with finding land for a new prison camp, designing it and getting it equipped and operational. This prison camp eventually became known as Johnson's Island prison camp. Hoffman's experiences in this prison camp may have influenced how he designed it and ran it.

Is there anyone who can help me find which prison camp Hoffman was taken to in 1862?

According to author, Roger Pickenpaugh in his book, "Johnson's Island : A prison For Confederate Officers", Hoffman was paroled on the spot, and he and his men (8th U.S. Infantry) headed north from Texas.
