Some time ago, I recall hearing that a number of Gettysburg civilians died of disease in the aftermath of the battle, but I don't remember where I saw or heard this. I'm looking for more information about this because I would like to use this in an article I'm writing. I'd like to know how many civilians got sick and how many died. If anyone has information (like from a book), I need to know which book so I can cite the reference. Thanks.

I would check Gregory A. Coco's A Strange and Blighted Land: Gettysburg: The Aftermath of the Battle which talks a lot about what the civilians went through when the armies moved on.

Louisa Shields and Julia Culp are two:

Then there's baby Catherine L. Klingel:

Other young children also died that summer:

Last year, Dr. John Anton published a piece on the death of Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed. But not disease, If you'd like a link, I'll dig it up.
