Look Away - A History of the Confederate States of America by William C. Davis

Just finished this book.

Davis makes the point that as soon as, and even before, the secceding states formed their government and wrote their constitution, that the southern politicians were already bickering and intriguing amongst themselves.

He portrays a government founded on 'States Rights' was all so quick to subjugate several of those 'States Rights' to expediency.

Much of this book deals with the conflicts between and among the Confederate congress and the state governments vs. the executive in the person of Jefferson Davis.

Also addressed is the depredations of the civilians under the Confederate regime, and the plight of the soldiers who gave up all to a purpose ultimately unknown.

A page turning good read and an 'eye-opener' for one who has not been familiar with the government of the Confederacy.
