A Civil War soldier's grave and his headstone were under a Long Island Episcopal church. But for years, no one knew exactly where. Now it's time to honor his dedication to congregation and country. https://civil-war-picket.blogspot.com/2019/05/a-civil-war-soldier-and-his-headstone.html (Photo below courtesy of Trinity Episcopal Church, Roslyn, NY)

Thanks @Phil Gast for the link to your website. An intriguing story.

From "Record of the service of the Forty-Fourth Massachusetts Volunteer Militia in North Carolina, August 1862 to May 1863" John C. Pollitz, Boston, Company F, Jan. 7, 63, cerebro-spinal meningitis. 13 others died from cerebrospinal meningitis.

Great thread and congratulations to the congregation for restoring the young man’s honor for serving his country and his supreme sacrifice
It is only right for him to receive the acclimation and honors he deserved
Regards
David

Interesting story. It is unusual (and sad) that for this young man who was so dedicated to this church that his "final resting place was incorporated within the current building during construction in 1906 ". And to boot they forgot where he was buried after knocking down his grave stone to fit in the crawl-space.
