NF Lives of Billy Yank and Johnny Reb

Non-Fiction
I am wanting to read "The Life of Johnny Reb" and "The Life of Billy Yank". Are these books worth the Read as far as factual historical fiction goes?

By Bell Irvin Wiley ? By all means, they're considered classics. I don't consider them fiction. They're factual accounts of the common soldier's daily life. A good part of the sources used are letters and diaries written by the men themselves.

I've read Johnny Reb and I have Billy Yank. I enjoyed the book. I'd recommend. Though I have heard Hardtack and Coffee is available online for free.

They are THE starting place. They are not fiction at all, although I'd be interested to know why you thought so.
I read a description of the books and it made them sound as if they were a fiction novel with historical references. If that makes since? Not a true history book but more of a story.
