List of New Jersey Soldiers Killed at Battle of Gettysburg

There are two books that I know of which list all of the Union dead - neither is online that I could find so I don't know how easy it would to find the New Jersey regiments only. Many local history sites have lists of casualties for specific companies - you might could get at a list by looking company by company. This website has a list of New Jersey Monuments with some death info - I do not know if it is exhaustive -

@Tom Elmore do you have any suggestions?

Union Casualties at Gettysburg, by Travis W. Busey and John W. Busey, in three volumes, would have that information.

If you were searching for a single individual, or even the dead from a company or regiment, I would gladly provide it.

Another good resource is the Final Report of the Gettysburg Battle-field Commission of New Jersey, although it does not list casualty information:

I found a book called Records and Officers and Men of NJ in the Civil War. It lists the soldiers who were killed at Gettysburg every regiment. Is this an accurate book? Thanks.

Yes. One just has to be careful perusing the fine print to avoid overlooking any. New Jersey had 12 infantry regiments, one cavalry regiment and two artillery batteries in the fight at Gettysburg, not counting the 4th New Jersey, which was performing train guard and provost guard duty in the area.

I think the thing to be sure of is the difference between men "in New Jersey regiments" and "men of NJ" which will not always be the same thing. Most of the men in the NJ regiments likely hailed from New Jersey but they may not all have.

When you see all those names it brings it all home. Very sad ! There are a few other regiments that fought there that may have also had a few members killed . You did a great job listing the ones you did and as a proud Jersey boy I say thank you.

You are most welcome. I'm certain that this is not a comprehensive list but just what I found using the compiled regimental rosters. It should definitely be a good start for those interested.

As a New York native, I put together a similar list for their units.
