Lincoln's views on slavery shortly before the inauguration

One of the main reasons that Cotton states seceeded was their fear of what Lincoln would do to the insitituion of slavery once in office..So I thought this letter from him would be interesting in showing what he thought...From this it basically shows that aside from stopping the expansion of slavery into other areas, he was planning on doing anything to affect it at all.. In fact, it seems that he would have been willing to let slavery be introduced into New Mexico..In my opinion, maybe the deep South should have really waited to see what he would actually do rather then seceed due to fears of what he might do..
