August 2nd marked the death of Albert Henry Woolson, who died August 2, 1956 at the age of 106. At the time of his death he was the last known surviving member of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Albert was born in 1850 and was a drummer boy with the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery Regiment.

That's crazy, 1956! Not that it matters, he's listed in Minnesota's vet records as being born even earlier, 1847? That could be a few years he pasted on himself when enlisting, no?

Hang on, an obituary gives the date as 1847, who knows? 109!
