Anyone with a copy of " Photographic History of the Civil War " has this- for those not so gifted, though I'd better share.

" U.S. HOTEL D'GRUB "

Army humor over-arches wars, generations and the boredom we know men endured between gaps of being shot at. This one is helped hugely by era photographers and their tendency not to have anyone smile for these, too.

Tennessee, sutler's. I'd assumed at least the ' lady ' was genuine annnnnddd.... no. S(he) is not, a soldier dressing the part at this Grub Shack, one supposes, to serve Meels. Right under the " U "- ' Meels ", then also badly misspelled, so badly misspelled it's all on purpose, " Bordin and loginm " " No licker sold to soljers " .
