This is a neat thread topic, but Stephen Ambrose's work has been called into question and specifically, his work on the Transcontinental Railroad. I would tread with caution here.

Based on the thread in the Naval War (https://civilwartalk.com/threads/knowledge-of-the-naval-war.77727/ ), thought I'd start a similar repository for interests and reference works.
Great idea, sir. Thank you for doing this. I remember doing it on the Naval Forum when I first joined then thinking later - after taking part and reading many threads - than perhaps I didn't know as much as I thought I did...
