War Service February 1862 1st New Jersey Cavalry, Lt. Col.; Barnetts Ford; Brandy Station (wounded); 2nd New Jersey Cavalry, Colonel; Gen. Sturgis’ Expedition; Gen. Grierson's raids in Tennessee and Alabama- commanded the 1st Brigade; March 1865 Brevet Brigadier General.
Post-War Career U. S. Cavalry, Nevada; 1871 Professor of Continental Languages at Princeton University.
