Orange Ice Cream
“Housekeeping In Old Virginia”, By Marion Cabell Tyree, 1877

Four oranges, one gallon cream. Rub four or five lumps of sugar on the orange peel, squeeze the juice out, put the lumps of sugar in it and pour into the cream. Sweeten heavily with pulverized sugar before freezing.

Caramel Ice Cream
“Housekeeping In Old Virginia”, By Marion Cabell Tyree, 1877

Three quarts cream, two pints brown sugar, put in a skillet and stir constantly over a brisk fire until it is dissolved. Be careful not to let it burn, however. While it is melting, heat one pint milk, and stir a little at a time with the dissolved sugar. Then strain it, and when cool, pour it into the cream, well beaten. Then freeze.

Great Thread, recipes and memories of turning the hand-crank in order to get to eat it. There wasn't any of this licking it and putting it back in the cooler.:banghead:
