I had a couple of weird things happen today. I thought Mike had finally gotten rid of me. Might try again today, and if it keeps happening, pm civilwartalk himself. @civilwartalk, apparently some of us are having some issues off and on.

I was going to submit my pictures taken while I was in Philadelphia, but on Saturday I took the following picture of a picture.

RyersonPhoto.jpg

I love pictures that convey the sense of the continuity of history and this picture does just that. The man pictured was then-centenarian, Abraham Ryerson, a resident of Lincoln Park but while the Civil War was happening that area of Lincoln Park was still part of Pequannock Township. The reason I went to go and take this picture to specifically share it with this forum today is because on Saturday, speaking to the person who told me about the urban legend of the horses' hooves. He actually knew the WWII vets speaking with him.

Ryerson had enough land that a fairly important street in town is named for him (subdivisions). While its a suburban nightmare today, its said that he had a dispute with the Reformed Church of Lincoln Park and that he'd walk to the First Reformed Church in Pompton Plains to attend mass every Sunday right up until the time he was 100.

Note the *GAR* hat....Grand Army of the Republic!
