Please forgive me if this has already been posted. I looked but didn't see where it was, if it was.

I read his book, "Reminiscences of an active life" about a year ago. I would need to refresh my memory of it, but at least at first, he thought reconstruction was working.

For those that don't know, he was born into slavery, became free in 1863 due to the EP and rose to become and attorney and military officer.

As time went on, by the 1890s, Mississippi started passing the Black Codes and he decided to study law and moved to DC and set up a practice.

He must have been a person of vigor, perseverance, and intelligence to achieve all this. His experiences would be interesting to study because I don't think there are many Black first-hand experiences of Reconstruction out there (I could be wrong).

His book is still available on Amazon.
