We found this site on way to Florida. There was sign on Interstate 75 directing us to where it was. Jefferson Davis was captured at this site on May 9, 1865. It is a 13 acre site.

There were historic markers, museum and very good film on capture. There also was a gift shop where I purchased several books and other items.

My husband and I were glad we found the place and stopped It is run by Irwin County, Georgia.. It is located at 338 Jeff Davis Park Road in Fitzgerald, Georgia. It is 14 miles east of I- 75.

That location has been teetering on the edge of closing down for quite some time. Thanks for visiting.

Just curious, did they have books on the capture? I may have had an ancestor with the 13th Ga. Cav who escorted the president and would love more info.

We were only ones there when we visited. As we were leaving another couple came. There were several books. I bought a cookbook, one on history of the Rebel Yell and one on the Flags of the Confederacy.

The film had a lot of information on the capture. As to names of soldiers involved I don't know.

The office of caretaker had books. They might be able to give you more information .
