In the aftermath of the Battle of First Manassas in September of 1861 the Confederate army set up lines of battle to keep Union armies from advancing into Northern Virginia. One of these lines included Munson's Hill which was occupied by JEB Stuart who was attached to Stonewall Jackson's command. Here is the story about how the Rebels used a little trickery.

Pretty good little video. Thanks for posting it. I see others by the same people in the follow up menu.

Stuart had a cool idea! For argument sake...suppose it wouldn't have faked them out...all mayhem would have broken loose. That really took guts to even try!
John Bankhead Magruder did the same thing on the Peninsula in 1862 along with marching his men back and forth to give the impression of more troops. He kept the Union army bottled up for a month under-----guess who?

Ah this old myth!

Rosser's battery of the Washington Artillery was on the hill. They'd dug more emplacements (6) than they had guns (4) and so in the interim whilst waiting for another two guns they placed the logs in the other two emplacements. Federals patrols detected them immediately. When Longstreet's force abandoned the hill they left the logs....
