January 25, 1861 - Augusta arsenal seized by Confederacy in Georgia.
January 25, 1862 - The Federal expedition at Hatteras Inlet continues to struggle to cross the sand bar at Pamlico Sound, NC.
January 25, 1863 - Abraham Lincoln relieves General Ambrose Burnside [US} from command of the Army of the Potomac, replacing him with General Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker.
January 25, 1863 - Union forces withdraw from Corinth, Mississippi. They had been ordered to help protect Mississippi River shipping from northern states.
January 25, 1863 - Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke, CSA, reaches Batesville, AR, which effectively ends his expedition into Missouri, that began Dec 31 1863.
